A woman, who gained notoriety after she was filmed hammering an elderly man's vehicle with a steering lock, was fined RM5,000 or in default three months' jail.

The Sessions Court also ordered Siti Fairrah Ashykin Kamaruddin (pic), 30, better known as Kiki, to do 240 hours of community work.

In delivering sentencing, Session judge Zainal Abidin Kamarudin reminded the accused to uphold her good name as she was a lady and well-educated.

Zainal Abidin said the accused was very lucky that the victim Sim Siak Hong was a good man and did not wish to pursue the matter.

The accused, who broke down during mitigation, had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both.

She was said to have committed the offence at the parking lot of UTC, Jalan Sekilau in Kuantan on July 14 at about 1.10pm.

Rebecca Loh, who made news last year for pushing her special needs son out a 5th floor window, killing him, has been diagnosed as "fit to plead" by the IMH and she intends to plead guilty.

Loh, 32, had a 9 year old son, Gabriel Loh, who suffered from multiple medical conditions including liver impairments, which left him in need of 24 hour care.

He was malnourished, jaundiced and had osteoporosis and the medical fees were just too much for Ms Loh who survived off her elderly mother's low income as she could not work because she needed to tend to her son every day.

After she pushed her son out the window, Loh was remanded at IMH for psychiatric assessment and was found to be suffering from post-schizophrenic depression at the time of the incident but they also found that she was "not of unsound mind" so she could plead.

She will plead guilty to the offence of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, meaning that she will not be facing the death penalty.

HDB Being sued for breaching inventor's patent on clothes drying racks

Local inventor Mr Yiap Hang Boon, is suing the Housing Development Board (HDB) for infringing a patent that he holds for an external clothes drying rack that he designed back in 2003.

However, the HDB rejects the claim and wants to get the court to revoke the patent which was granted to Mr Yiap.

Mr Yiap claims that the external clothes drying racks used in some of HDB's newer developments in Sengkang, Toa Payoh Central and Queenstown have infringed his patent.

The HDB is claiming that they came up with the clothes drying racks themselves and did not copy Mr Yiap's design.

In fact, the HDB says that they had already been implementing the clothes drying racks consisting of a stainless steel frame with four poles fixed at an incline up to 1 and a half years before Mr Yiap filed for a patent on his design.

HDB explained that they came up with the new design following safety concerns being raised over the use of bamboo poles.

Another possible defence for HDB is the fact that Mr Yiap did not bring the case to court within the 6 year limit.

A court case was first filed in 2006 about the possible patent infringement but he had previously been advised that he had no legal case.

I submitted my affidavit to the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today. In the affidavit, I countered that, “There is no transparency in the manner in which CPF monies were invested by the Government, MAS, Temasek Holdings and / or GIC.”

I also stated that, “The current situation where Singaporeans have been placed at a disservice, due to the lack of information from the Government, MAS, GIC and Temasek Holdings, is due to a lack of checks and balances within the Government and among the estates of governance. Such disservice is dishonourable and requires a thorough examination of the issues at hand. Only when these issues are dealt with rigourously and held accountable to Singaporeans where where the lives of Singaporeans will be truly safeguarded. This is where I have written in good faith from, and which I maintain, towards a just and equal Singaporean society.”

A maid from Indonesia, Ariani, was jailed 12 months yesterday for stealing over $24,000 in cash from a drawer at her employer's house.

Her employer, Ms Tan Ee Mui, 53, had employed Ariani, 29, since 2011.

Ms Tan kept large amounts of cash in a locked drawer in her home but her maid found out where she kept the key to the drawer.

Periodically, Ariani had been taking medium amounts of cash from the drawer over the course of a year.

It was not until July this year that Ms Tan had noticed something was amiss.

Ms Tan had discovered that she was about $5000 short in the drawer and so she had confronted Ariani about the discrepancy.

Ariani broke down and admitted to stealing from the drawer.

The court heard that Ariani had accessed the drawer multiple times when Ms Tan was not home and each time she had taken about $1000 and remitted it back to Indonesia.

She had taken from the drawer between April 2013 and May 2014. Once, she took over $3,200 from the drawer and remitted it to Indonesia.

The full amount of her theft had been discovered as she had an account with remittance agency Pay2Home, which kept records of all her remittances.

A total of $24,109.68 was stolen from Ms Tan and the money was no able to be recovered as it was already sent to Indonesia. Ariani made no restitution to Ms Tan so she was unable to get her money back.

The prosecutor had pushed for a 12 month sentence as Ariani had repeatedly stolen from her employer.

Ariani had apologised in court for her offences.

She could have faced a maximum sentence of 7 years in jail and a fine.

CHC Trial: Almost $5 million of church funds used to fund Sun Ho's album production

$

As the trial into the City Harvest Church leaders continued yesterday, it came to light that almost $5 million of Church building funds were used to fund Sun Ho's album related costs.

The prosecution showed that this money was used before any bond investments were made to Xtron.

It was also pointed out that the Xtron bonds were used to make it look like money was being transferred to Xtron as investments when in fact, there is no evidence to show that it was a serious investment.

The sham bonds were used to cover up the money which was already transferred in to Sun Ho's music career.

Sun Ho is the wife of Khong Hee, senior pastor and one of the six accused church leaders. She was the centrepiece of the crossover project, which was supposed to evangelise through pop music.

The prosecution also pointed to an email which showed that the Church's former finance manager, Serina Wee, had suggested hiding the costs of paying back the advanced rentals as travel and salary expenses.

"The idea of using Xtron bonds was so it could be presented as an investment, and hide the fact that you were using building fund monies to fund Sun's career," said Lead Prosecutor Mavis Chionh.

At the time, it was also clear that Xtron was a failing business and that Sun Ho's albums were losing money.

Based on this, the prosecution said that there was no basis for the church leaders to believe Xtron's huge sales predictions on Sun Ho's albums.

Xtron had earlier projected that Sun Ho's album sales would make S$16 million in 2011, and S$23 million in 2012.

A former cashier with pawnbroker Maxi-Cash who robbed his then-employer of $570,000 in jewellery and cash was on Monday sentenced to reformative training.

This is a strict regime in which offenders under 21 are kept behind bars for between 1½ and three years as they undergo structured rehabilitation programmes.

Jonathan Tan Jia Huang, 20, had asked the court to sentence him to jail, saying that he turns 21 in three weeks, and that a previous stint of reformative training had failed.

When District Judge Ng Peng Hong rejected the request, Tan said: "In that case, I will not change."

The judge replied: "The decision to change is yours."

Besides the robbery charge, Tan also pleaded guilty to stealing a wallet and using two other persons' NRICs to check into a hotel and sign up for a mobile phone plan.

Around 12.50pm on Jan 12 this year, Ng, who held keys to the cash drawer and the display shelves and cabinets storing gold and jewellery, grabbed the items when his colleague went to the toilet.

She tried to stop him when he tried to exit the shop on Tampines Central 1, but he pushed her aside, causing bruising on her arm, and headed on bicycle to a multi-storey carpark nearby.
